Women’s Ministry of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church

(From the Constitution and Bylaws of the Women of ELCA)

Purpose

As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.

Responsibilities

We are open to all women in the congregation who subscribe to our purpose.  We engage in planning, giving attention to the program areas and ends established by Women of the ELCA.

Each year we decide on the different ministries that we will support throughout the year.  These have included: Quilt prayer ministry, Women’s Thankoffering Service, Ronald McDonald House with pop tops, Boy’s Town’s Leon Myers Stamp Center, Waffle Sunday fundraiser, Care Bags for Interface, Safe Haven Emergency Shelter, Hannah Circle – monthly bible study, card writing to shut ins, support for youth going to the ELCA Youth Gathering, Bibles to the third grade children of the church, and We Care For U care packages for the college students from our congregation.

Activities

Some of our activities include:  Annual Women’s Beach Retreat, Annual Women’s Meeting and luncheon and Secret Prayer Partners reveal, 10 Things party and appetizers, Ladies Night Out, Ladies Night In at various houses, Annual Christmas gift and cookie exchange, and Summer Bible study.
